Films: Jason and the Argonauts (2000)

Summary: In 1963, we bore witness to the search that became a legend. In 2000, we see a search that becam...a rather long miniseries where the monsters are scant yet the mysticism still runs high.

History: The story remains accurate to the original tale for the most part. Jason is ordered by his evil uncle Pelias to retrieve the immortality bestowing Golden Fleece, which is all the way in Colchis. The journey is very, very, VERY long, but nonetheless fraught with danger throughout. And even when they get there, Jason and his fellow Argonauts' troubles have only just begun...

Notable Kills: One guy attempts to vault over to get the fleece...only to get instantly chomped on by the dragon.

Final Fate: The harpies are crushed by falling rubble caused by Hercules, the bull is tamed into planting what turn out to be seed warriors that Jason manages to trick into killing each other, and the dragon is led off a cliff by him and the rest of the surviving Argonauts via giant noose. As for what happened in the end, the short of it is that Jason manages to get the Fleece, kill his uncle, and rule his homeland of Iolcus alongside Medea.

Powers/Abilities: The Minoan bull can snort fire, and is an indestructible mechanical beast.

Weakness: Anything conventional for the most part, but the bull's fire can be rendered null if one wears a special oil on their skin, and not even the dragon can resist hearing the great Orpheus' skills with the lyre. Too bad it broke...

Scariness Factor: 3-Oi vey, the CGI is what you'd expect for a low-budget TV miniseries. But for what it's worth, they did make some intimidating creatures. Granted, some of the perils were actually Greek Gods like the rather monstrous-looking Poseidon, but we didn't count them because screwing with mortals is just what Greek Gods do. The harpies are rather ugly while the bull and the dragon have sheer might to back themselves up.

Trivia: -The original ending to Jason's myth isn't actually all that happy, as it ends with Jason cheating on Medea, her leaving him after killing his new wife, and him being forever alone. Oh, and he died when a piece of the derelict Argo fell on him. At least he had a son...

-Also in the original myth is a different fate for the Fleece's guardian, which was described as a gigantic serpent or dragon. In it, the beast is subdued by a magical sleep potion, and survives.
